GMN2009: Genome, mind mapping, neural networks

This post will be a little bit more “roaming through knowledge” than the usual.

But, following the dictum of somebody else, I will make things as simple as possible, but not simpler.

What is the point? Talking about way of representing and forecasting the expected decisions of groups and individuals, and some projects that try to build a “model” of what we are and could be- be it our DNA or our brain.

Not just the content of this post will be unusual- its structure will mirror its content.

As I wrote on the front page, this blog is not a blog- it is a knowledge-sharing platform.

And, I must confess, as goes with most of my online activities and publications, this is a “testing ground” for some publishing ideas.

My accountant said that I am giving away my IPR. True, but it is a Faustian bargain between control and evolution.

I am more interested in the implementation and evolution of ideas than in shielding my IPR.

Yes, the money associated with the services or activities is interesting- but it cannot be the prime motivator when developing a new idea or product or technology or service.

Otherwise, why would some people surrender a decent salary for years without a salary or with just an expenses reimbursement for the distant hope of getting, eventually, for few years, less than that they earned in their cushioned jobs?

As somebody said recently in a conference here in Belgium- it is not that there is not enough money for startups; there is too much money.

Therefore, also startups that lack the motivation are started with a “two years and then sell for a bundle” strategy, spoiling scarce resources… and working on a two year by two year strategy.

Now that the patent law in US got back where it should be (I am still waiting for the copyright to change…), I have no qualms with sharing online business processes: as I believe that there is more value in a copycat development that exposes ideas to further development and adoption, than in keeping something closed in a desk drawer or file cabinet or hard-disk file.

But it is a give-and-take, and a work in progress.

Therefore, this posting will be split over few days, each day presenting a link to this introduction and the enclosed list of links with a “first publication date” attached to each section.

Why “first publication date”? Because, as it will become soon understandable, each section will be a living entity.

And its content will evolve, sometimes here, sometimes by generating a whitepaper or article or magazine issue.

Anyway, this will be the “knowledge hub”.

Each section will contain, as in acting, the closing paragraph of the previous section, and the opening paragraph of the following one.

Any contribution is welcome- and will be acknowledged (use the contact form).

If you want to be informed, follow my twitter, or use the “subcribe” information to receive a weekly summary of what has been published here recently, along with the abstract of each item.

TABLE OF CONTENT

Each section will be easy to find- write “GMN2009″ in the search box, and then a word from the title.

Of course- if you search for just “GMN2009″, you will get all the sections that have been already published.

If you do not want to write here, you can always contact me on twitter, facebook, frype: search for “roberto lofaro”- you will immediately recognize from my profile which one is the right one :)

Or, if you are in Brussels, we can try to arrange a friendly (and free) chat lasting from half an hour to a couple of hours somewhere in town while sipping a drink.

As a rule: I prefer a brainstorming approach, i.e. a group of people. Just one-to-one looks too much like a date or a confessional :)

If you have ideas that you would like to discuss- search here in my blog (chances are that you will find a hint), or visit my motivation presentation.

There you can find both updated career history, and my profile, as resulting from some test that I had to do in Spring 2008, when I started my quest to settle in Brussels working in a normal job with a normal life.

While the former is in English, the latter is in French, as I left the original results of the tests I passed (I removed only the information that could “help” doing the tests- that’s cheating :D ), but being mainly composed of tables, pictures, radar charts, and %s, the language should not be an issue.

Have a nice reading
