Broadband- universal access: push or pull?

Tuesday, October 20th, 2009

This short article (1000 words) has just a purpose: try to see beyond broadband.

It is quite interesting to read every few days articles repeating yesterday’s news, trying to foster a change to generate the news of tomorrow.

What I am referring to? Well, considering the title… Finland’s choice to have universal broadband access by 2015.

"Ondernemen in Vlaanderen" and educational systems

Thursday, October 15th, 2009

I attended today a conference in Gent, “Ondernemen in Vlaanderen”

Earlier today I twittered: “In Dutch now, but why the talks about talent come always to the same diagnosis?”.

This short article (800 words) is to share some considerations from few conferences that I followed today.

GoogleTranslateReady: one month later

Wednesday, September 9th, 2009

More than one month ago, I wrote that from August 16th I would have started using something that I suggested to Google for fun, my GoogleTranslateReady concept.

Then, I wrote that I had actually started the experiment in early August, in my “virtual village” on Draugiem.Lv

This is my report, one month later.

I could not resist the temptation to publish it on… 2009/09/09 :D

From studio accounting to telephone billing :)

Monday, September 7th, 2009

If you are based in US, or work within the entertainment industry, you probably know what is “studio accounting“.

And this post adds a funny billing system, that is one step ahead in adding creativity in a billing system.

In my consulting activity, I always find boring when systems are not aligned- and I do not mean just information technology.

I mean stupid things like organizations that set up campaigns, and then forget to inform everybody that the campaign is closed, and therefore their branches keep selling something to get a commission… after the campaign is closed :D

Or leaving around in places that you control posters announcing… something that ended months ago.

Everyday politics :)

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

Aristotle said that, by nature, we are all political animals.

When I wrote in the title “everyday politics” I was not thinking about “professional” politics.

I was simply stating: with the new technologies, that disrupt the usual communication organizations and control, everybody can do a political action. Everyday.

Read below to see how to begin now. Without a budget. Just a brain and a keyboard, and some experience to share.

On how interpretation based on experience is not necessarily the best strategy.

And alternative approaches (with examples).

A thank you note

Thursday, May 28th, 2009

Well, this post is unusual- as it is more a celebration and public “thank you” note that really something informative.

My thank you note to Prof. M. Hodges and Prof. N. Dattani, who I met respectively in 1994 and 1995 at LSE, attending their Summer School classes.

Searching & Machine intelligence & Decisions

Tuesday, May 19th, 2009

How the addition of WolframAlpha as a search engine could complement Google services to create a new market.

Services? Access and structure knowledge. And a new form of knowledge management.

Mickey Mouse rights :)

Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

How far would you go in protecting your IPR (intellectual property rights)?

It is a fine balance between control and visibility.

An old lesson from an unusual source- Disney in Italy :)
