Cum grano salis
In this seventh article and last article of this series (beside the bibliography), a reality check.
You can share ideas, dreams, or “what ifs”, but, in the end, experience is built by the interaction with reality- not by thinking about an alternative reality.
In this article I would like to share some practical experience on how to temper the fury of over-excited zealots of innovation-through-patterns.

First and foremost: why the title?
Since 2009 I posted few (ok- well over 100) articles.
Eventually, technologies and political options intertwined.
But each bit of technology, and each political development require a couple of interpretation keys: experience in relevant activities, and plenty of readings to update experience.
In the end, each article is semi-self-contained, as there is, [...]

This part of the AGB2009 series (see the presentation)
AGB2009: evolving alliances
BACKGROUND
In business, alliances are often a matter more of opportunity than choice- the lesser of two evils.
ABSTRACT
The lifespan of an alliance? Have a quick look at the European alliances since the French revolution: few alliances lasted more than a generation.
Also if we are now used to see NATO as long-term relationship, slightly more than 60 years ago the first seeds of the alliance, during the African side of WWII, didn’t seem promising: a coordination nightmare.
The old joke, that NATO was created to keep the Germans in and the Russians out is but part of the reason why, in the end, the bloc was able to operate also beyond its original purposes.

When I announced the AGB2009 series, I planned a three-stages publication.
First, the abstract; then, a mind-map of my argument; finally, the summary, to be published here or elsewhere.
The fourth step, the full article, is for future publication as an e-book.
I published other maps, as minutes of public events, on September 24th (for the post-i2010) and [...]

Moving from designing the game to using the game implies adding a completely different set of skills.
You will need to learn how to manage the evolution of the dynamics between the players- be it a simple game, a real negotiation, the management of a major organizational change, a merger, or a political campaign.
Playing games implies being able to constantly feed back into your game the results of what you are doing.
From designing the game, we will move to evolution- something that is not necessarily following your strategy- but that you have to cope with.
This post is part of a series, first published in May 2009.
